Laser light therapy, also known as low-level laser therapy (LLLT) or red light therapy, is a non-invasive treatment used to help stimulate hair growth in people experiencing hair thinning or hair loss, especially from androgenetic alopecia (male or female pattern baldness). Here’s how it works:
How Laser Light Therapy Promotes Hair Regrowth:
- Stimulates Cellular Activity (Photobiomodulation):
- LLLT uses red or near-infrared light (typically in the 630–670 nm wavelength range).
- This light penetrates the scalp and is absorbed by cells in the hair follicles, particularly the mitochondria.
- It increases the production of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), boosting cellular energy and activity in the follicle.
- Increases Blood Flow:
- LLLT helps improve microcirculation in the scalp.
